Saudi Arabia Airlines bought seven Boeing 777 cargo planes to support e-commerce cargo growth demand
It is reported that Saudi Arabia Airlines will order 7 modified Boeing 777-300 cargo planes from Mammoth Freighters, a US aviation engineering start-up, which will double the size of its cargo fleet and further improve its cargo capacity to meet the rising market demand.
According to the agreement, Mammoth will reconfigure the ordered aircraft to carry heavy pallets on the main deck and may undergo five modifications. A multi cabin facility will be established specifically for wide body aircraft modification, maintenance, and passenger and cargo aircraft modification. The new factory will also be able to manufacture aircraft structural components required for modification.
Since the cooperation between Saudi Arabian Airlines and Cainiao Logistics in 2021, it has promoted Saudi Arabian Airlines' e-commerce cargo business, with 12 weekly flights between the airline's hubs in Riyadh, Hong Kong, and Belgium. Currently, it operates a cargo fleet consisting of seven cargo aircraft, including four Boeing 777 and three Boeing 747-400 aircraft.
It is expected that the passenger aircraft modification market will further grow in the next few years to fill the supply gap in the international cargo market, especially for major aircraft manufacturers including Boeing to stop producing major cargo aircraft models, including the B777, in 2027 to comply with global emission standards and sustainable development goals.
