The difference between pressure sensors and pressure transmitters


The pressure transmitter and pressure sensor are mistakenly believed to be the same, both representing sensors, but in fact, they have significant differences.


1、 The electric measuring instrument in pressure measuring instruments is called a pressure sensor. Pressure sensors are generally composed of elastic sensing elements and displacement sensing elements.


The function of an elastic sensing element is to apply the measured pressure to a certain area and convert it into displacement or strain, and then convert it into an electrical signal that is related to the pressure by the displacement sensing element or strain gauge. Sometimes the functions of these two components are integrated, such as solid-state pressure sensors in piezoresistive sensors.


2. Pressure is an important process parameter in the consumption process and aerospace, aviation, and industry. It is not only necessary to quickly and dynamically measure it, but also to digitize and record the measurement results. The automation of large refineries, chemical plants, power plants, and steel plants also requires the remote transmission of pressure parameters, and requests that pressure and other parameters, such as temperature, flow rate, viscosity, etc., be converted into digital signals and sent to the computer.


3. Pressure sensors are highly valued and rapidly developed sensors. The development trend of pressure sensors is to further improve dynamic response speed, accuracy and reliability, as well as to achieve digitization and intelligence. Commonly used pressure sensors include capacitive pressure sensors, variable reluctance pressure sensors, Hall type pressure sensors, fiber optic pressure sensors, resonant pressure sensors, etc.


2、 There are many types of transmitters, and the transmitters used in industrial control instruments mainly include temperature transmitters, pressure transmitters, flow transmitters, current transmitters, voltage transmitters, and so on.


1. The transmitter is equivalent to a signal amplifier. The AC220V transmitter we use provides a DC10V bridge voltage to the sensor, then receives the feedback signal, amplifies it, and outputs a 0V~10V voltage or current signal. There are also small DC24V transmitters and sensors that are about the same size, sometimes installed together. Generally speaking, transmitters provide power to sensors and amplify signals. The sensor only collects the signal, for example, the Strain gauge changes the displacement signal into the resistance signal. Of course, there are also sensors that do not require a power source, such as thermocouples and piezoelectric ceramics, which are usually used.


2. We have used pressure sensors of different models, but the transmitter has hardly been replaced. Pressure sensors detect pressure signals, usually referring to primary and secondary meters. Pressure transmitters combine the primary and secondary meters and convert the detected signals into standard 4-20, 0-20 milliamperes, or 0-5V, 0-10V signals. You can understand this vividly: sensors are used to "feel" the incoming signals, The transmitter not only senses it, but also "transforms" into a standard signal and "sends it out".


Pressure sensors generally refer to sensitive components that convert changing pressure signals into corresponding changing resistance or capacitance signals, such as piezoresistive components, piezoresistive components, etc. Pressure transmitters generally refer to a complete set of circuit units that measure pressure, composed of pressure sensitive components and conditioning circuits. They can generally directly output standard voltage or current signals that are linearly related to pressure, for direct collection by instruments, PLCs, acquisition cards, and other devices.
