It is difficult to reproduce with seeds. Although the seed setting rate is high, with a weight of about 17.5 grams per thousand seeds, there is still no precedent of successful seed reproduction due to insufficient research on the conditions for seed germination. The survival rate of asexual reproduction using stem cuttings can reach 70-80%. [4]
Branch cutting method: Before sprouting in autumn, winter, or early spring, take sturdy branches that are over two years old (branches harvested in autumn or winter should be stored in sand for germination), cut branches that are 10 centimeters long and have two or more latent buds, cut the base into a horse-ear shape, and cut on a prepared seedbed. 10 cm spacing between lines × 30 centimeters, the insertion depth should be 2/3 of the insertion ear. It can be inserted directly or diagonally. After cutting, slightly suppress and water in a timely manner, cover it with grass curtains or plastic films, and often keep the surface moist. The survival rate can generally reach 70-80%. When the seedling height is 80-100 centimeters, it can be planted in the field. [4]
Dry cutting method: In autumn, winter or early spring, collect thick and sturdy stems, cut them into 30 cm long stem segments as cuttings, and then cut them in the seedbed. The row spacing is 30 centimeters, the plant spacing is 15-20 centimeters, and the soil depth is 2/3 of the cuttings (i.e. 10 centimeters are left for the aboveground part); Other requirements are the same as the branch insertion method. The survival rate of stem cutting is as high as 95%. Seedlings raised by branch cutting method have stronger growth, more branches, and higher yield.
