Injection water is the most widely used type in the production of sterile preparations. The quality requirements for injection water have been strictly stipulated in the pharmacopoeia. In addition to the general inspection items of distilled water, such as acidity, alkalinity, chloride, sulfate, calcium salt, ammonium salt, carbon dioxide, easily oxidized substances, nonvolatile substances, and heavy metals, which should comply with the regulations, pyrogen testing must also be carried out. It is clearly stipulated that the preparation, storage, and distribution of purified water and injection water should be able to prevent microbial growth and pollution. The materials used in storage tanks and transportation pipelines should be non-toxic and corrosion-resistant.

The operation of purified water and injection water systems usually involves two modes of operation, taking into account the regular cleaning and disinfection of the pipeline distribution system.
One method is to batch water like a product, which is a batch operation method. The "batch" operation mode is mainly for safety reasons, as this method can isolate a certain amount of water during the testing period until a conclusion is reached. Another is the "direct flow" operation mode of continuous water production, which can be used while producing.

Water for injection can be obtained through distillation, reverse osmosis, ultrafiltration, and other methods. Countries have made very clear regulations on the growth method of water for injection, such as:
① The United States Pharmacopoeia (24th edition) stipulates that "water for injection must be distilled or reverse osmosis purified from drinking water that meets the statutory requirements of the American Environmental Protection Association, the European Community, or Japan.
② The European Pharmacopoeia (1997 edition) stipulates that "water for injection is distilled from drinking or purified water that meets legal standards through appropriate methods.
③ The Chinese Pharmacopoeia (2015 edition) stipulates that "this product (water for injection) is distilled water from purified water".
It can be seen that distilled purified water for injection is the world's recognized preferred method, while clean steam can be obtained from the same distilled water machine or a separate clean steam generator. Distillation method has a good removal effect on non functional organic and inorganic substances in raw water, including suspended solids, colloids, bacteria, viruses, pyrogens, and other impurities. The structure, performance, metal materials, operating methods, and raw water quality of the distilled water machine all affect the quality of injection water. The "multi effect" of a multi effect distilled water machine is mainly energy-saving, which can use thermal energy multiple times in a reasonable manner.
